Description
The 4 rows of images of Inkarri (Chunchu) in this mesa cloth evoke strength and confidence in a world coming into harmony and balance. The outer bands are woven in a subtle stripe of black within the red fields. This is an advanced skill and difficult to do well. The Inkarri expresses the Q’ero people’s belief in the coming return of Inkarri (great Inka leader) and the resurgence of the greatness of the descendants of the Inka people. Martina Phacsi Apaza used her skills to create this handsome woven textile framing the Inkarri with deep maroon and black fields. She knelt on the ground outside her home in Hapu Grande above 12,000 feet in elevation under the watchful protection of Apu Mama Rosa. Your purchase helps her children and her community build a more sustainable life and supports traditional Q’ero culture. 32 x 25 inches. 81 x65 cm.
